Tomorrow is World AIDS Day (December 1, 2012). It is day of remembrance and spreading awareness.
HIV awareness is important to me because I am a Peer Health Educator and care that others do not have access to information that they can use to make informed decisions about their sexual health. Three years ago I started volunteering in a mock LGBT Center set up by the Pride Action Committee (PAC), a student organization at San Diego State University. Originally, I got involved because I wanted to meet more gay people, none of my friends were gay. After a few months of volunteering, I realized the importance of keeping this little student organization, that was trying so hard to be a resource center, open. Thus, my journey began. I started getting more involved, tabling, attending meetings, and helping out with events. …

For World AIDS Day, a few friends and myself tabled, passed out red ribbons, condom kits, condom information, STI/HIV/AIDS information to the San Diego State Student Body.
We tabled from 9am to 2pm! It was great to get out there and “quiz” people about HIV. Most people were unable to answer the HIV questions, but that is okay because we gave them the right answers, spreading awareness.
Some of the questions we asked were:
What fluids transmit HIV?
Is HIV a gay disease?
Can you get HIV from kissing?…
Last Wednesday was amazing!!! We had a great mix of facility, student and community support yesterday at our Spirit Day event on the San Diego Campus.
