…Only a small wedge of the pie.
Don’t get me wrong, I would like to be able to get married and reap the benefits, BUT, when we the LGBT(QIA) Movement proclaims we are striving for inclusively, we miss the mark. I would like us to step back and have a more genuine approach than marriage “equality”—which is more like “marriage homogeny”. Here are just a few family types that do not receive marriage benefits because they do not fit the current marriage mold: blended families, …

In 2011, youth ages 13 through 14 accounted for 23% of new HIV cases in North Carolina. Alarmingly, the cohort with the highest percentage of new HIV cases in 2011 was among ages 20 through 24 who accounted for 17% of the new HIV cases. The next highest affected cohort was among ages 25 through 29 coming in at 14% of the new HIV cases. Despite the drop in new HIV cases across the different age cohorts between 2010 and 2011, the age range 20 through 24 still accounted …

When engaging in consensual sex, choosing to use condoms can aid in preventing pregnancy, assisting in preventing the of spread sexually transmitted diseases and infections (STDs/STIs), and adding a little bit of flavor to any sexual rendezvous.
In fact, according the Center for Disease Control (CDC, 2012), when worn properly and consistently, male condoms are highly effective in the prevention of pregnancy and spreading of STDs/STIs, for example HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).
Condoms are for one time use only. Trojan Condoms recommends you:

Tomorrow is World AIDS Day (December 1, 2012). It is day of remembrance and spreading awareness.
HIV awareness is important to me because I am a Peer Health Educator and care that others do not have access to information that they can use to make informed decisions about their sexual health. Also, on a personal level, I know people who are HIV positive and are healthy because they have access to treatment, and because they had prior knowledge about HIV and what it means to live positive.
As young …

Recently, I have been following the progress of Bill numbered SB 919, titled: An act to amend Sections 32261, 32265, 32270, and 48900 of the Education Code, relating to school safety. Senator Ted W. Lieu of the 28th District of California authored SB 919. SB 919 regards minor’s sexting, texting sexually explicit materials, in schools. SB 919 proposes that sexting be an act that can result in a student’s suspension or expulsion.
As a concerned citizen of the great State of California, I am writing …

807,615 voter signatures are required to repeal Proposition 8 (Prop 8) and there is so little time to collect them. Advocates and supporters of equal marriage rights for same gendered couples in California only have until May 14 to gather the required signatures for the initiative to appear on the November 2012 ballot.
Hopefully the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturns Prop 8 declaring that it impedes on the civil rights of Gay and Lesbian Californians. If the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals does not overturn Prop …

The Federal Government needs to do something. Marriage is a Human Right and should not be left up to the states to decide. I have been getting really worked up about this because in California the only option I have is to get a domestic partnership. This means for me, if I ever leave California, I may or may not be recognized as “a spouse” to my husband. What kind of nonsense policy is that???
The under lying issue is that when individuals are not offered the same opportunities …

I am super stocked that Andii was able to have a blast at her prom. I hope she had a great time.
I remember my prom, I was too scared to ask a guy I liked to go. It is really cool how far we have been coming along with High-School Acceptance. Granted we still have a long way to go.
Nurturance and human rights require each other.
Unfortunally I could not link the video to this post but here is the URL. Check it out!

Today we are gathered here to morn the death of gay marriage. So many people have been and will be affected by his death. He was so young, only a few years old; this California native was never able to reach his full potential. Now here we are dressed in our finest blacks. We should be celebrating weddings, instead we are here at a funeral.
It was only a few months ago, couples were discretely running to the nearest courthouse to get married to …

Three years ago I started volunteering in a mock LGBT Center set up by the Pride Action Committee (PAC), a student organization at San Diego State University. Originally, I got involved because I wanted to meet more gay people, none of my friends were gay. After a few months of volunteering, I realized the importance of keeping this little student organization, that was trying so hard to be a resource center, open. Thus, my journey began. I started getting more involved, tabling, attending meetings, and helping out with events. …

Hopefully, Prop 8 is repealed…it has been a very long engagement.
I think if Prop 8 is repealed, maybe a lot of people will realize, it is my hope, that it is OKAY to be gay.

This was an interesting article.
Briefly, it is about Treasure Island Media featuring an HIV- and HIV+ couple that barebacks.
It raises a lot of questions, such as should it be Treasure Island Media’s responsibility to educate people about the risk of HIV, or are they simply able to be entertainment source selling their product to an audience?
I feel if you are going to present an audience with an image and that image could potentiality normalize what they are present, and in fact can be harmful …

For World AIDS Day, a few friends and myself tabled, passed out red ribbons, condom kits, condom information, STI/HIV/AIDS information to the San Diego State Student Body.
We tabled from 9am to 2pm! It was great to get out there and “quiz” people about HIV. Most people were unable to answer the HIV questions, but that is okay because we gave them the right answers, spreading awareness.
Some of the questions we asked were:
What fluids transmit HIV?
Is HIV a gay disease?
Can you get HIV from kissing?…

Last Wednesday was amazing!!! We had a great mix of facility, student and community support yesterday at our Spirit Day event on the San Diego Campus.
It was amazing walking through the campus smiling at the people wearing purple, sharing with them a moment of “I know why you are wearing purple, and thank you for doing so.
I wish that this simple act of wearing purple could change the climate of our society; where a young person can feel so terribly alone that suicide is their only option …

Tyler Wilson, a male cheerleader, now has a broken shoulder and some bruises. He was beaten up for being on a cheerleading team. All our lives we are told we can do anything we put our minds to. They left off the last part stating: only if you stay within the gender norms. You shouldn’t be scared of following your dreams. But more and more it is looking like you have to be.
Tyler, I hope you heal quickly.
The root of the problem …

During sixth grade the other guys started figuring out I was different. It wasn’t like I started doing anything I didn’t before; I think they just started tuning more into sexuality. Suddenly Smear the Queer, a football like game, was less important than those who didn’t play. I was the guy who never liked to play the kinds of games they did. This was strike one against me. The second strike was that most of my friends were girls. Come to think of it, the only other male friend …

"I am somebody. I deserve full equality. Right here! Right now!"
Tonight was an amazing closing event at Urban Retreat. Dan Choi was the speaker tonight and really got me pumped for this year. I wish I could share the whole speech with you all, but the words are all scattered around in my head, but luckily their mean is still in my heart.

But after finding out my results I am relieved. So today is as good as any to go find your local testing center and get tested.
Here are a few testing sites for those near the City of San Diego.

Yesterday, on Netflix, I watched a documentary called The Butch Factor. It is a documentary were it flows through the many different subcultures of the gay community, everything from circuit culture to bear culture to drag culture. I don’t want to go into much detail. But the point of the documentary was to see how different individuals in the gay community construct their masculinity, and how the greater culture and straight men also do so. I thought it was interesting, I think it is a good …

California might be passing a legislation that requires those performing in adult films to wear condoms! Oh no, bareback will no longer be so bare anymore, what will we do? If this passes, a huge portion of porn will be outlawed! You might have to get some of your favorites from the black market. This isn’t just a California thing, some porn conventions are prohibiting porn that depicts sex without condoms from being sold at the convention. The reason for this legislation is to keep those 1000’s of people …

Have you ever signed up for a gay website, in hopes of meeting a cute guy with some common interest? I have… Websites like gays.com, downlink, justguys, they are all the same! I guess they are great if you just wanna do the deed and move on. Not once did I meet a quality guy. Most of the guys who approached me through email or winks only wanted to see a picture of my penis and only offered pictures of their penis.
Why do I want to see your …
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, irrespective of their sexual orientation or their gender. Domestic violence can be physical, emotional, financial, and sexual.

It is easy to honk… I feel like a lot of people don’t get it.
The chances of the Prop 8 being over turned by the Supreme Court are close to 0 if the Supreme Court does it’s job correctly.
My interpretation of the Supreme Court’s duty is to uphold the will of the people. Unfortunately the people said no to gay marriage…
I would be happy to be wrong, but I don’t think I am wrong.

Not even 10 days into the New Year and I have already heard about three different instances involving violence against someone whom was perceived to be homosexual. I just kept thinking wow, and I can’t believe that happened to someone. I hate to say it but this is a big reason why I am scared to hold my boyfriends hand in public.
I am scared to death, sometimes, that I might offend someone enough that they would want to harm me. The funny thing is I am the least …

When I was in high school, slightly before I came to realize that I was a homosexual, I started to develop a crush on my best friend. I would stay up late wondering how it would feel to have our lips touch… You can use your imagination. The crush was consuming. I wanted to hang out with him every day. I’d always find reasons for him to spend the night or a reason to spend the night at his house. I was spending a lot of energy trying to …

Today while surfing Edge, a network for Gay and Lesbian news, I came across Americans for Truth about Homosexuals. I mean, I guess it should have not been surprising that there is a website “devoted exclusively to exposing and countering the homosexual activist agenda,” but I still felt awkward reading Peter LaBarbera’s opinions. The contexts of many of the “articles” seem skewed, but I guess the argument goes both ways.
For example, Julea Ward, did not in my opinion get let go because of her religious convictions. In my …

This entry is a part of our World AIDS Day Blogathon. During this week we share our experiences, stories, and ideas about how HIV affects young people around the world. Join the blogathon .
It is nice to have a day of awareness, but I challenge you to inform people about AIDS / HIV every chance you get. Hand out condoms to friends and promote safe sex!

I had a brilliant idea. At my school the Pride Action Committee, an LGBTQI Group, has a homo-phobia log. Anything hateful, destructive or violent is recorded in it.
I wish this was not needed, but sometimes people can be hurtful and it very liberating to write down the comments and events that scar us.
Maybe someday we can close all the homo-phobia logs and put them on a shelf and never have to write in them again.
For now, I suggest we create an online homo-phobia log …

Growing up in San Diego CA, I was exposed to many different cultures. I felt like finding where I belong in high school was very superficial. Belonging to a specific group hinged on where I purchased my clothes and what genre of music was on my iPod. I never knew exactly where I belonged. A contributing factor to that confusion was I have no idea who I actually was. Now I am a college student, I am still located in San Diego and I am still exposed to many …

Summary of the
Effects of Gender and Sexuality on Judgements of Victim Blame and Rape Myth Acceptance in a Depicted Male Rape
In Davies and McCartney’s (26 June 2003) scholarly journal, they investigate how sexuality and gender affect judgements towards male rape. Davies and McCartney (26 June 2003) stated that “male victims tend to be blamed more than female victims in both stranger and acquaintance rape situations” (p. 392). They also stated that “male victims are judged more harshly than females” and that “men tend to be more negative …

Going Greek… I was hesitated because I didn’t think I would fit in. I’m not as trendy as most young gay college students. Although I am well aware of the fact that not all gays are the best dressers (I have seen some real tragic messes!). My assumption was that a gay fraternity would bring out only the trendy party boys.
My assumption was wrong. The fraternity that I was semiforced to rush by a friend turned out to be an incredibly welcoming group with a diverse spectrum …

The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the ban on same sex marriage was not shocking to me. After all, it is the high court’s job to uphold the will of the people, and unfortunately, a slim majority of Californians voted to keep marriage strictly between one man and one woman. This does not mean, however, that I will not do what it takes to fight to win back marriage equality. I am, after all, a gay male who would someday like to have a piece of paper that states …

Coming out is tough – it’s like the ugly prom date your mother had to set you up with because all the girls in your high school knew you were gay before you realized it. But seriously, coming out is like high school: some people have good experiences, while others have bad experiences. Everyone learns from it and wants it to end as fast as possible so they can get it over with and graduate to the real world.
In my head, coming out for me was harder then …
